CARDINALS THUMP INDIANS IN SEASON OPENER BEHIND SOLID PITCHING

John Baum 06.04.2009
The Bern Cardinals and Lausanne Indians opened up the 2009 NLA baseball season in front of a crowd of 200, on the newly built ballfield in Hünenberg, Sunday April 5th. The Cardinals began their quest for a fifth consecutive championship with a convincing 11-1 mercy-rule win. Chris Beyeler threw six solid innings for the win, allowing only 1 unearned run. Nicolas Jaquemet took the loss, while pitching a solid game. Jaquemet wasn't helped by sloppy play in the field, and timely hitting for the Cards. Tobias Imboden would take over in the seventh inning for Beyeler, throwing the last two innings. Imboden struck out four batters, and didn't allow a hit. The Cards offense was led by Ronnie Zimmermann, 2-4; 3 RBI. Samuel Paulino contributed a double, and two runs scored. Rudy Vargas and Alex Cruz, playing in their first game for the Cardinals, would each collect a hit in the first AB. The Cardinals would like to thank the people in Hünenberg for a really nice opening day! The Cardinals play their home opener April 19th against the Zurich Barracudas. The double header begins at 11am at the allmend. Come support the team, and help us begin our home season in style!
