The Bern Cardinals defend their 4th consecutive championship title and 8th in the last 9 years. In total it's the 9th title in the club's history, as the Cardinals won their first crown in 2001. The new Swiss championship record holder from Bern prevailed 3:1 in the best-of-five-series against the Embrach Mustangs. Embrach had reached the finals for the first time in their franchise history and gave the reigning champion a well fought series. After the lop-sided blow-out by the Cardinals in game 1 (3:12), Embrach regrouped in game 2 and managed to even out the series with a 0:3 shut-out by the left-handed pitcher Timothy Jones. Game 3 became a real thriller as the Cardinals trailed 4:1 until the bottom of the 6th inning, when player-coach Patrick Lawson tied the game with a 3-run-homerun. In the bottom of the 9th the Cardinals again trailed 6:4, but Tobias Imboden and Samuel Paulino scored on an Albert Marsnik single to send the game into extra innings. Starting pitcher T. Imboden impressively struck out the side in the 10th and retired three more batters in the 11th inning besides walking one. Bern's Raphael Hänzi singled with one out and stole second, what led to an intentional walk to hot-hitting (4-4) A. Marsnik. This brought up firstbaseman Johnny Perigo who singled in R. Hänzi to guide the Cardinals to the 6:7 win in walk-off fashion. Game 4 promised to be a pitcher's duell as it was in game 2, when T. Jones and P. Lawson squared off. This time the Cardinals offense got through to T. Jones scoring once each in the 4th and the 5th. Embrach got on the board on a throwing error by a double-play-ball with one out and took a 2:3 lead on another error with two outs. The Cardinals who committed 6 errors on that rainy day answered right back in the top of the 7th. Pinch-runner Miro Bussmann was sac-bunted to second by Vitus Huber and drove in by a S. Paulino single. A fly-out by Ryan Byrne brought S. Paulino to third with two outs. On a groundball by A. Marsnik pitcher T. Jones chased S. Paulino in a run-down, but interfered with him to force home the lead-run for the Cardinals. This was enough for Bern's ace P. Lawson who struck out 12 in that game and the Cardinals won their 9th championship title in the last 13 years. Box score: http://www.easyscore.com/data/box_elrgckqfsq1iafcqc2g5mshn.pdf
