The Bern Cardinals have won the European Cup Qualifier in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. Facing a 0-1 deficit at the start of the best-of-three finals against the hosts, the Swiss champion rallied to win the tournament. In game one Bern handed the Buffaloes Blagoevgrad a 5-4 extra-inning win to tie the series. The contest was tied at 2-2 after nine innings. With the IBAF Extra Inning Tiebreaker Rule in effect the Cardinals opened the tenth with three runs on a bases loaded walk, a sac fly and a RBI single. Blagoevgrad answered with a two-run double with no outs, but couldn?t bring the tying run home. Benji Waite captured the win in relief; Martin Andonov suffered the complete game loss. In the second game of the day and the rubber match of the series, Bern scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to blow a close game open, prevailing 9-4 in the end. Ryan Byrne highlighted the rally with a solo homerun. He also pitched 6 2/3 solid innings for the win. Dimitar Nassapov went deep for the Buffaloes. Teodor Dimitrov was charged with the loss.
