NLA CARDS REMAIN AT .500 AFTER SURPRISE SPLIT WITH FROGS
Kategorie: NLA - HomeTobias Imboden was once again stellar on the mound for the Cards,
working a complete game for the victory. Imboden allowed nine hits in
the game, but only one earned run on his way to the win. The Cardinals
found themselves in an early 2-0 deficit, thanks to two early errors,
but responded in the third and fourth innings for a combined five
runs. The four run third inning was highlighted by John Baum's homerun
to right center, which tied the game at 2-2 before the Cards grabbed a
lead later in the inning they would not let go of. A single run for
the Frogs in the seventh, and one for the Cards in the eighth would
finish the scoring at 6-3 for the home team Cardinals.
Game two once again proved dificult for Baum to win. He would allow a
season high ten hits to the Frogs, and a three run fourth inning
giving the visitors from Sissach a 4-0 advantage. The Cards scrapped
back a run in the fifth innning as Imboden doubled to start the
innning, and scored on a Miro Bussmann double with two outs. The Frogs
turned to player/coach Gabe Bonfanti to close the game in the sixth
inning. Bonfanti held the Cards scoreless in his first inning, but ran
into control problems in the seventh and last inning. A lead off
strikeout that wasn't handled by the catcher started the rally. Two
consecutive walks loaded the bases before a wild pitch sent the Cards
second run across the plate. With runners on second and third, the top
of the Cards order was unable to produce the big hit, as the runners
remained where they were, and the game finished with a 4-2 Frog victory.
The Cards are in action for the sixth consecutive weekend Saturday in
Lausanne. After this weekend they will have a much needed two week
hiatus. During this time, Vitus Huber returns to full time action,
along with the return of American catcher Seth Suplin. Lexu Walchli
also returns shortly after this pause...the Cards are looking forward
to reuniting the whole team, and making a push to the playoffs and
beyond!
