CARDS STEAL HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE WITH 8-3 GAME ONE WIN02.10.2010
The Bern Cardinals traveled to Therwil to start their sixth consecutive Swiss finals, and drove home happy. Tobias Imboden worked in and out of trouble after three seamless innings, going the distance for the win. The Cards offense started strong in the first, but came away empty as runners were stranded on 2nd and 3rd with less than two outs by Johnny Perigos and Seth Suplin. But Perigos and Suplin would more than make up for their inability to plate these runs later.
Perigos opened the scoring with a big two-run homer to left in the third inning for a 2-0 lead. The Flyers kept things close, a homerun from JB Tucker cut the lead to 2-1, but that would be as close as it would be. Suplin planted a ball over the left field fence in the sixth inning with two runners on, extending the lead to 8-1. Two late Flyer runs would prove to be not enough, as Imboden put the fire out on a bases loaded jam in the seventh, and struck out Stefan Koller to end the game in the ninth! Game two is scheduled for tomorrow at 2pm.
